The Original Plan: Plushies Made From Fabric
When we first thought about launching a plushie-making workshop, our initial idea was to stick with traditional plushie fabrics. We wanted participants to design and sew their own stuffed toys from scratch. However, as we started exploring the process, we realized that sewing, especially for beginners, could be challenging and time-consuming.
We wanted our workshops to be fun and accessible to everyone, no matter their skill level. The challenge became clear: how could we offer a plushie-making experience that’s simple, enjoyable, and beginner-friendly?
A Fresh Idea: Inspiration from a Product Demo on Douyin
While we were exploring alternatives, we came across a product demo video on Douyin that showed how plushies could be made using machine knitting rather than fabric sewing. The video was a demonstration of a product that allowed users to easily knit and shape plushies without the need for intricate sewing techniques. This innovative approach to making plush toys sparked our interest right away.
The demo was simple but powerful—it showcased how easy it could be for anyone, even those without any sewing experience, to create a plushie from scratch. That was exactly what we were looking for: an easier, more approachable way to bring plushie-making into our workshops.
Turning Inspiration Into Reality
With the idea of using machine knitting, we set to work redesigning our workshop to make it more accessible and fun. We ditched the need for traditional fabrics and sewing and embraced the knitting technique we saw in the Douyin video.
Our goal was to keep the experience creative and personal, allowing participants to choose their own yarns, colors, and styles. Now, anyone can join the workshop and leave with their own handmade plushie, even without prior crafting experience.
